How to Grow Popcorn Microgreens
Popcorn microgreens are essentially corn shoots that are grown from nothing but popcorn kernels! They are very high in nutrients like Vitamin A, B, C, E, calcium, magnesium, potassium etc. and are can grow from seed to harvest in one week!
Popcorn microgreens/ shoots taste sweet and grassy and are excellent in smoothies, juices, salads and sandwiches.
To grow them at home, here’s what you will need:
1. Orville Redenbacher’s Original Popcorn Kernels
2. Jiffy Seed Starting Mix
3. 8” foil pan
4. Lid/ foil
5. Grow Lights (recommended but optional)
PS: you can use any organic popcorn kernels and any seed starting mix or tray of your choice.
HOW TO:
1. Pre moisten seed starting mix with water.
2. Add it to a tray with holes at the bottom for drainage.
3. Generously sprinkle popcorn kernels on top of the mix.
4. Cover seeds with 1/2” of the same pre moistened seed starting mix.
5. Cover with lid or foil to keep it dark and warm. Check daily for germination.
6. Remove cover on Day 3 or when significant germination occurs.
7. Place under grow lights or by a sunny windowsill.
Popcorn microgreens are ready to harvest in 7 days!! Enjoy!
