How to Grow Perfect Carrots
The secret to growing perfect carrots every time is about soil and spacing! The sweetest carrots grow in cooler temperatures of spring and fall and before direct sowing the seeds, prep your soil by lightly raking it and adding in some compost of good quality potting soil. Some people even mix in sand as carrots need loose, well draining soil.
Water your growing area and sprinkle the seeds in as lightly as possible. Pat them in so they have contact with the soil and very lightly cover them with soil. Carrots seeds need light to germinate, so burying them deep will deter germination.
When leaves begin to pop up and are few inches tall, thin your carrots to a spacing of 2” or two finger spacing between each carrot plant. For me this is the trick to growing perfect carrot each time!
Carrots are an easy crop to grow as you don’t need to worry about fertilizing them and they can even survive underground through snow and winter.
