How to Make An Herb Garden Basket

Turn an old harvest basket into a beautiful herb garden. Makes the perfect gift!

If you’re looking the the perfect gift for Mother’s Day or for a friend who loves to garden or cook, then you’ve got to make this easy HERB GARDEN BASKET! Here’s How:

MATERIALS NEEDED:
1. Wicker Harvest Basket (preferably with handle)
2. Burlap (eco friendly way to keep soil inside and allow water to drain)
3. Potting Soil
4. Herbs of your choice (I planted Basil, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme, but you could add lavender, dill, chives, mint, cilantro, parsley etc.)
4. Flowers (I suggest marigolds, pansies, sweet alyssum, violas or petunias)
5. A Pair of Scissors
6. Plant Tags

HOW TO:
1. Line basket with burlap. Don’t worry if there’s excess overhang. You’ll trim that in the end.
2. Add potting soil 3/4th of the way.
3. Plant herbs of your choice.
4. Backfill with more soil as needed.
5. Trim excess burlap with a pair of scissors.
6. Add plant tags and water well.

You can also tie a personal note to the basket’s handle or care instructions. Place this basket on your deck or patio table. It will thrive in full sun or partial shade too. Be sure to place a catchall dish or tray at the bottom to collect excess water after a rain or after watering. Harvest often and enjoy!

Using a harvest basket, burlap, organic potting soil, herbs, gloves, scissors and plant tags to make my own Herb Garden Basket for Mother’s Day.
