All About Harvesting Potatoes

Growing potatoes is incredibly easy! All you have to do is bury some organic seed potatoes, that have sprouted, in good quality soil and hill them (add more soil on top) every few weeks, as the leafy greens begin to grow!

Potatoes are ready for harvest when:
1. It’s been about 90 to 100 days from time of planting
2. Foliage is yellowing and browning
3. Plant looks like it’s almost dead

At that point, here’s what you should do:
1. Stop watering for at least a week to 10 days
2. Check the weather to make sure it doesn’t rain before your harvest day
3. Empty out the container on a tarp and sift through the soil for potatoes
4. Alternately, pull by up by the stem

I love growing potatoes in containers to prevent rodents or critters from digging them up.

This year, four seed potatoes grown in containers produced over 10 lbs of delicious potatoes for me and my family!
