Fall Planting Guide

Pictured here is my community garden plot. I did a major clean up to get my raised beds ready for some fall planting!
✔️Discarded diseased summer plants
✔️Refreshed the soil
✔️Laid wood chips on the pathways, and
✔️Sowed seeds

What I’m growing this autumn -
1. Leafy Greens - lettuce, arugula, kale, spinach, bok choy, mustards, swiss chard and fenugreek.

2. Root Veggies - carrots, beets, radishes.

3. Brassicas - broccoli. I wish I could grow cauliflower and cabbage, but they take up a lot of garden real-estate. When you’re growing in a small space, hard decisions need to be made to maximize production - for example: one cauliflower head (one meal) vs 16 carrots (a few meals).

4. Herbs - cilantro, parsley, mint, chives and lavender, just to name a few. If you’ve never grown herbs in fall, you must, I insist!

5. Garlic - one of the easiest crops to grow! Individual cloves are planted into the ground in late fall (just a few weeks before the first frost).

Autumn is the absolute best time to grow a veggie garden as pest pressure is considerably lower and cooler temperatures makes it easier to work outside! Hope you’re growing food this fall!
